Alias 13.5
Our "Hands On" Instruction is unique. Our Alias course is quite different from the rest. The course is customized for the students specific job application. We do not sell the software so we are able to point out strengths and weaknesses. We often compare Alias to other surface modeling software programs such as Rhino and Pro/DESIGNER(CDRS). Our instruction is more like a workshop because we delve into apparent software limitations and offer solutions. We often hear designers and engineers compromise shape and form due to software limitations. Our response is always the same "they must not have attended our training workshop."

  •   What is Alias 13.5?
Quoting from Alias aliaswavefront.com Alias, StudioTools is a powerful suite of award winning 2D/3D software, used for design and styling in the automotive, marine, aircraft, sporting equipment, electronic enclosure, children's toy and fashion accessory markets.

Alias is one of the world's leading developers of CAID (computer aided industrial design) software, especially since it has a tool for every normal industrial design stage. Using Alias in the earliest of shape and form defining to the final modeling complete with rendering, and/or complete engineering. An engineer that knows Alias can combine the efforts of the design and engineering sides of a product to cut cost and make projects more efficient to all involved.

        Who uses it?
GM uses Alias and has this to say, "General Motors has worked with Alias for more than 15 years. Alias software is integral to our digital design process from initial concept exploration to the development of aesthetically refined surfaces." They go on to say that they use alias in several states in several different countries.

No more is a product in the hands of only industrial designers, a variety of people now dictate shape and form. Many disciplines are now being cross-trained. Marketing people are heavily involved with the shape and form of the ultimate product as are, of course, Mechanical Engineers. Consequently, the software once only for industrial designers is now also for properly trained marketing persons and engineers.

      Why Alias and Pro/ENGINEER?
Alias has always been the industrial designer's choice of tools for proving shape and form, rendering and simply communicating to engineers and tooling vendors. (1) Most industrial designers are taught Alias in school. Many schools are cross disciplinary and the animation courses are also taught in Alias. Silicon Graphics and Alias have strong college programs that ramp up students with Alias skill sets. (2) Alias also has an impressive suite of procedural mapping tools. (3) Even the fact that something that can be quickly designed in Alias can also be rendered fairly quickly and then is ready to be shown at a meeting or presentation, which can certainly help any marketing team as well as the engineers that need to see exactly what the usability of a certain product is. Alias is a hard program to beat.   Engineers however use Pro/ENGINEER to communicate.  That is why we have the Level 4 Pro/SURFACE workshop.  To integrate IGES or STEP models into Pro/ENGINEER.  Many engineers have problems with import geometry inside Pro/E.  Our Level 4 Workshop shows industrial designers how to deliver a Pro/ENGINEER model.  Taught to engineers, the Level 4 Pro/SURFACE workshop helps engineers break their fear of working with import geometry.

The real power of Alias though, is the push and pull that Alias allows you. Almost any curve, surface, line, or else can be "tweaked" to extreme bounds. This allows you to take a product and make it smoother, rougher, taller, shorter, longer, grooved, slanted, and many other changes fairly easy, and quick. This allows the engineer to look at a product and see exactly what the industrial designer is trying to get across in the modeling. Alias is one of the best and most powerful software packages that can be purchased today.
